Building routine is the basis of the new favorite part of your day. To stretch at any given time is not enough. Goalies who wish to excel as athletes needs to make stretching a daily activity, with a built in schedule. Those who make the time, will see the results. As goalies get older the harder it is to become flexible, with the stiffening of muscles and joints. Build up the habits of daily routine for the longevity of your hockey career and the overall quality of life long after you hang up the pads.
My Daily Routine
Morning: Wake up being morning with a short dynamic stretch. Getting the blood flowing and allowing myself to wake up and start my day immediately with a routine.
Afternoon: After class or at a mid part of the day. Build on the dynamic stretch form the morning with added new stretches. Favoring the dynamic stretch over the static stretch during this part of the day.
Evening: One hour before bed is when the deepest most extensive stretch can take place. Using all of the previous stretches and adding static stretches to follow and unwind in the end of the day.
